Running Around This Town LP
Time For Action Records
Alright you Top Boys and Knuckle Girls, I really hope you didn´t set your TFA order yet after the triumphant cry for glory of the WEEKS yesterday because here´s another scorcher comin´ from the same label to whip out your wallet for.
In case you ever thought of Powerpop only being some lame kind of coitus backbeat or of Mod Revival only being fit for crumpled pedantic traditionalists blustering about the sewing patterns of their Button-Down Shirts while sipping on a cup of Earl Grey and nibbling on a piece of malt loaf, then you´ve finally found the definite antithesis to this proposition by means of THE GIFT from Nantes and their actual full-length.
Almost two years after the release of their Debut EP on Une Vie Pour Rien those guys, having emerged from the likes of PROTOKIDS, JANITORS, RUDES and HEADLINERS, are presenting a record that simply has to be denominated as absolutely unrivalled in it´s sound and attitude, once again giving proof that the TFA commander-in-chief Micha repeatedly evinces the right intuition to find extraordinary bands for his label.

Fake Gold & Broken Teeth LP
Back in 1977 SLAUGHTER & THE DOGS frantically raised the question “Where Have All The Bootboys Gone”, thirty-nine years and many worry lines later they finally receive the proper answer to satisfy their elementary needs by the PENNYCOCKS from Barcelona. Here they are, Latin Lover Bootboys from Catalonia cracking up bubble gum automats for their dear concubines and skipping out on a tab instead of beating up their opponents with handmade Millwall Bricks, allover handsome fellas going out for a Marlon Brando memorial spin through town on their rusty mopeds with the gold dust sound of music from the Fifties to the Seventies ringing in their ears.

THE NOT AMUSED
Flat Broke MLP
Put up or shut up, it´s no secret that I simply fell in love with the THE NOT AMUSED both on a personal and on a musical basis since having heard their “Flaunting Their Talents” 12inch back in 2007 and luckily being able to organize some gigs with them back in my tiny booking activity days. But seriously folks, even from an objective perspective, how could one not love them ?
Not only do they have the perfect musical suss belting out a monster mash blizzard of record collector´s Powerpop wet dreams shaking some punked up Teenage Treats action with the cream of the Gin Tonic intoxicated Mod Revival crop, but also the appropriate style and attitude reflecting this music they play. A definite treasure that cannot be valued highly enough in times of bands really daring to wear tracksuits on stage !

TEN O SEVENS
You´re eyes don´t cheat, it´s Bandcamp bloody digital only and that´s not the band´s fault but rather a shame for every record label that is because this record should pressed straight onto vinyl and pryed out of the TEN O SEVENS´ hands within´ 24 hours time. Yes, I know that the band isn´t really active anymore, that a record needs promotion via live gigs and bullshit but listening to those songs on here I can only say to stick that yadda yadda yadda up to the dark side of your moon dear label owner. Go get the fuck out of your comfort zone and release that thing, at least in a small limited run for nerds like me and you who´s reading this.
That said, let´s get down to the points of this cannonade from the burning streets of London having spraypainted “Hate & War” all over the back of it´s rampaged leather jacket while as it´s worn out creepers are boppin´ up and down to the sound of “Staring At The Rudeboys” sending out 101 keys to your heart before handing you the Kleenex to dry your tears of joy.

Kill The Whole Cast LP
FDH Records / P.Trash Records / Rockstar Records
It´s hot in this post-nuclear stoneage matrix, parched desert landscapes as far as the eye can reach, only broken by the view on blood-smeared arenas where the unpennied beggars are mutilating each other for a piece of bread while the drones of war are minatory hovering above their districts only waiting for their target acquisition commando note. The world the MISCACULATIONS are conceptulaizing with their songs is abysmally vicious and could hardly be any scarier or more frightening but although it may facile appear futuristic actually isn´t that far away from the reality of our modern world where hate is sold as hope, where victims are distorted into parasites, where we´re closing our eyes when being faced with squalor until it´s knocking on our front door, just to even then derogatively slam it in the face of the less and non fortunate.

Cracked Up LP
Queen Mum Records
It was back in 2011 when Kidnap, Powerpop Guitarrero jack of all trades with the NOT AMUSED and TWITCHBLADES as well as label chief of Queen Mum Records and artworker at Mess Media, did the glorious job of sorting out previously unreleased demos from Cheshunt´s own Powerpop Legend THE JETZ, best known for their glorious alltime favourite “Catch Me”, and put out the meanwhile sold out “The Anthology 1977-79” on his label which not only received rave reviews from Powerpop fanatics all over the world but also became a collector´s piece within´ weeks after the release.
Incited by this release the ghosts of the past had been awakened and kicked THE JETZ back in time rediscovering the spirit and youthful enthusiasm of their early days back in the seventies. They finally wanted to put out that one proper album they should have made but never got the chance to do so back then. In the summer of 2014 they recorded their first new songs for what was proposed to be an EP with four songs and of course couldn´t stop writing new songs until they finally got twelve songs assembled which are now representing that one first proper album “Cracked Up”.
So without further chatter let me get one thing straight out right at the beginning: This record that THE JETZ put out after they called it a day back in 1979 is not only a phenomenal comeback of a band from the golden days of Powerpop, it´s as well an epic absolutely unique record because the band manages to capture and fuse every single musical impression of their own past, every disillusioned teenager´s hopes and dreams expressed through songs that really mattered and had the impact to change your life and make it better.Read More »
